How Permanent Roofline Lighting Actually Gets Installed

A lot of homeowners ask us what the installation process actually looks like. It is not magic, but it is precise. Here is exactly what happens from the day you call Horizon Exteriors to the day your lights turn on.

Step 1: The Consultation and Measurement

First, we come out to your home. We walk the perimeter, measure your roofline, and note every peak, valley, and dormer. We look at where your power is, where the controller will go, and how many zones you want. Then we give you a fixed price — no estimates, no surprise charges later.

Step 2: Scheduling

Once you approve the quote, we schedule your install. Most installs take one to two days depending on the size and complexity of your roofline. We show up on time, and we clean up after ourselves.

Step 3: Mounting the Track

This is the core of the installation. We start at one corner of your roofline and work our way around. The track is an aluminium channel that mounts flush against your fascia board. We screw it in — mechanically fastened, not just glued — and seal the top edge with a weatherproof sealant.

At every peak, we custom-cut the track to the exact angle of your roof. The track follows the roofline precisely, so it looks like it was always part of the house.

Step 4: Installing the LED Modules

Once the track is mounted, we snap the LED modules into the channel. The modules are on a quick-connect harness — waterproof plug-and-play connectors, no splicing. This means if a module ever needs to be replaced, it pops out and a new one snaps in. No cutting, no soldering.

Step 5: Running the Power

The system runs on DC24V — low voltage, safe, and efficient. We install a power supply that steps down from your home's 120V to 24V. The power supply is typically mounted in your garage or an exterior junction box. We run low-voltage wire from the power supply to the track, keeping it hidden and secured.

Step 6: The Wi-Fi Controller

The controller is what connects your lights to your phone. It is a small box that connects to your home Wi-Fi and sends signals to the LED modules. We mount it near the power supply, connect it to your network, and make sure it is communicating with the track.

Step 7: App Setup and Walkthrough

We download the app on your phone, connect it to the controller, and walk you through everything. You will learn how to change colours, set schedules, create presets, and control individual zones. By the time we leave, you can run your lights from your phone without any help.

Step 8: Cleanup

We clean up all debris, remove any packaging, and leave your property the way we found it. The only difference is that your home now has permanent lighting.

How Long Does It Take?

A typical single-family home takes one to two days. Larger homes with complex rooflines may take three. We work efficiently, but we do not rush — the track has to be precise, and the connections have to be perfect.
